Refurbished vs New Phones in Kenya: What You Save and What to Check
A refurbished phone can give you a flagship experience for less. Here is how to decide if it is right for you, and what to check.
A new flagship phone costs a lot. A refurbished one of the same model, a year or two old, often costs much less and does almost everything just as well. The trade-off is that you must buy carefully. Here is what to think about.
Why people choose refurbished
- A lower price for the same model.
- Access to higher-end phones that would be out of budget new.
- Less e-waste, since a working phone gets a second life.
What to check before you buy
- Battery health. This is the most common weakness in a used phone. Ask about it.
- Screen. Look for burn-in, lines, dead spots and a cracked glass.
- Locks. The phone must be free of iCloud or Google account locks and network locks, and the IMEI should be clean.
- Storage and model. Confirm the exact storage size and model you are paying for.
- Cameras, speakers, microphones, buttons and charging port. Test every one.
- Software support. Check the phone still receives security updates.
